Lt. Gen. David A. Deptula

Lt. Gen. David A. Deptula Lt. Gen. David A. Deptula is Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C. He is responsible to the Secretary and Chief of Staff of the Air Force for policy formulation, planning, evaluation, oversight, and leadership of Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities. As the Air Force’s Senior Official of the Intelligence Community he is directly responsible to the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence.

General Deptula completed ROTC at the University of Virginia as a distinguished graduate in 1974, and remained to complete a master’s degree in 1976. Earning his wings in 1977, he has flown more than 3,000 hours (400 in combat) to include multiple operational fighter command assignments. He has taken part in operations, planning, and joint warfighting at unit, major command, service headquarters and combatant command levels. He has served on two congressional commissions charged with outlining America’s future defense posture — the Commission on Roles and Missions of the Armed Forces, and the National Defense Panel. Prior to assuming his current position, he served as Commander of the General George C. Kenney Warfighting Headquarters, and Vice Commander, Pacific Air Forces.

General Deptula has significant experience in combat and leadership in several major joint contingency operations. He was the principal attack planner for the Desert Storm coalition air campaign in 1991. He has twice been a Joint Task Force Commander – in 1998/1999 for Operation Northern Watch during a period of renewed Iraqi aggression where he flew 82 combat missions, and for Operation Deep Freeze, supporting forces in Antarctica. In 2001, the general served as Director of the Combined Air Operations Center for Operation Enduring Freedom, where he orchestrated air operations over Afghanistan during the period of decisive combat. In 2005, he was the Joint Force Air Component Commander for Operation Unified Assistance, the South Asia tsunami relief effort, and in 2006 he was the standing Joint Force Air Component Commander for Pacific Command.

Deputy Commanding General, Futures/Director, Army Capabilities Integration Center

LIEUTENANT GENERAL MICHAEL A. VANELieutenant General Vane assumed duties as Deputy Commanding General, Futures and Director of the Army Capabilities Integration Center on 20 August 2007 after serving on the Joint Staff as the Vice Director for Force Structure, Resources, and Assessment (J8). 

In this position he is responsible to the Commanding General, TRADOC, for the design, development, and integration, into a joint warfighting environment, from concept to capability, all aspects of the Future Force.

Lieutenant General Michael A. Vane graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1975 and was initially commissioned as a signal officer.  He transitioned to Air Defense Artillery where he has commanded at all levels, from platoon, battery, battalion, brigade, Air and Missile Defense Command (AAMDC), and as Commanding General, US Army Air Defense Artillery Center and Fort Bliss, Texas.

In over thirty years of active duty, he has also held various positions of responsibility in the force development community serving within the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), as part of the Army Staff, and most recently on the Joint Staff. 

His unique assignments include serving as: Aide-de-Camp to the Supreme Allied Commander, Europe during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm; Commander of the 4th Battalion, 3d ADA (Bradley/Stinger Fighting Vehicle-BSFV), 3d Infantry Division (Mechanized), Germany; Commander of the 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, Third US Army, Fort Bliss, Texas; Commanding General, 32nd AAMDC at Fort Bliss, and as Director for Doctrine, Concepts and Strategy for TRADOC.

He is a graduate of the Signal Officer Basic and Air Defense Artillery Officer Advanced Courses, the US Army Command and General Staff College, and the US Army War College.  He earned a Masters of Science Degree from the Naval Post Graduate School in Joint Command, Control, and Communications.  LTG Vane’s awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with three oak leaf clusters, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with six oak leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal the Parachutists Badge, the Army and Joint Staff Identification Badges, the German Silver Cross of Honor, and the French Order of National Merit.


Vice Admiral David J. "Jack" Dorsett

Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Information Dominance (N2/N6) and Director of Naval Intelligence (DNI)

Vice Admiral David J. "Jack" DorsettVice Admiral David Dorsett was born in North Carolina, raised in Virginia, and graduated from Jacksonville University (Florida) in 1978. His early career included duty on HMS Gavinton (M1140), USS Elliott (DD 967), USS Oldendorf (DD 972), and as executive officer in USS Dominant (MSO 431).

Dorsett’s subsequent operational assignments included duty as: deputy assistant chief of staff for intelligence for commander, 6th Fleet; intelligence officer on USS Ranger (CV 61) deployed for Operations Southern Watch and Restore Hope; assistant chief of staff for intelligence for commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command during Operations Desert Fox, Southern Watch and Resolute Response; and command of the Joint Intelligence Center, U.S. Central Command.

During his initial shore duty, Dorsett served as an analyst and then operations officer at FOSIC U.S. Naval Forces Europe, providing intelligence support during Operations El Dorado Canyon, Attain Document and Prairie Fire. He subsequently served: at the U.S. Naval War College on the Chief of Naval Operations' (CNO) Strategic Studies Group; at the Joint Intelligence Center Pacific; at OPNAV, and the Office of Naval Intelligence.

As a flag officer, Dorsett has served as: special assistant to the director of Naval Intelligence; director of Intelligence (J2), U.S. Pacific Command; director for Intelligence (J2), U.S. Joint Staff; and, director of Naval Intelligence (N2), CNO. In November 2009, Dorsett assumed office as the first deputy chief of Naval Operations for Information Dominance (N2/N6).

Dorsett possesses significant experience in national security affairs (Europe, the Middle East) and in strategic planning. He graduated with distinction from the U.S. Naval War College and Armed Forces Staff College, and was awarded a master’s degree from the Defense Intelligence College.
